Today the DHSC has released a consultation on regulating Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates. The draft order is the framework required by the GMC to formally regulate our profession. This consultation is open now and will close on May 16th 2023.

We have been eagerly awaiting the release of this substantial piece of work. Our Association has been striving for regulation, and this represents a big step forwards in this process. We strongly encourage Anaesthesia Associates to engage with this consultation. The upcoming listening events will give AA’s the opportunity to ask questions about this order, how it will affect them in practice and how best to engage. It is important to note this consultation also sets into motion a much larger review of all healthcare professional regulatory framework. Therefore, we encourage all health professionals and professional bodies to engage in this consultation process.
